Health, Fitness, and Body Image–It’s not just about being thin!

Katherine Edgecumbe & Dr. Deb Mosca

The purpose of this workshop is not only to teach girls how to have a healthy body or eat well, but to help each and every attendee to start on a road to a healthy relationship with her body for the rest of her life. It will focus on the important aspects of how to eat well, addressing the popular diets and the hype about calories, as well as give girls an idea on how of healthy eating should be! In reference to exercise and fitness, cardio vs. weight training will be addressed and suggestions on the best ways to exercise will be given. Perhaps the most important part of the workshop is the segment on body image. The workshop will talk about the impact of how a girl sees herself and how much that impacts a her heath, fitness, and your whole life. What to eat and how to exercise are obviously very important. But the way a girl sees herself and thinks about herself is even more so. The filters with which we look at ourselves, where they come from, how we can become more aware of them, how to change them, and what happens when we take them too far, will also be talked about. Throughout the workshop, girls will have the opportunity to journal about themselves and what they are learning.
